PowerPod Travels to Africa to provide an uninterruptible power supply
for a medical clinic in Homa Bay, Kenya

In June, 2002, the PowerPod Corporation traveled to northern Kenya to install one of PowerPod's SP2000B systems.  Power from the Kenya utility was interrupted three to four times daily, creating serious problems with medical vaccine and sample storage.  PowerPod installed the system during a three day period with the help of the local people and medical personnel.

The Homa Bay Medical Clinic provides important medical treatment, water quality, and AIDS prevention services.   The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services with assistance from the Department of Energy, provided funding for the PowerPod system installation to support CARE*/CDC's safe water health project in Homa Bay, Kenya.  The photovoltaic system eliminates the need for a high-cost emergency generator that was required during frequent power outages.  Dependable solar power now keeps the project laboratory in constant operation and ensures against the loss of critical lab speciments.  Money saved on generator fuel and maintenance is being redirected to the field stations important safe-water community activities and health services.
